Some tattoos are a symbol of love. Others? They’re the final nail in the coffin.

This couple walked in together, all smiles.

They had that energy—newlyweds, still high off the honeymoon, the kind of love that makes people blind to red flags. The woman was practically glowing as she showed me the design: a delicate infinity symbol intertwined with their initials.

"We want matching ones," she said, squeezing his hand. "To symbolize forever."

The guy nodded, but something about his smile didn’t quite reach his eyes. I should’ve clocked it right then.

They insisted on going at the same time, so I set them up in separate chairs, one of my coworkers working on hers while I handled his. It was all laughs and nervous excitement—until the guy's phone lit up.

And I mean lit up.

Text after text after text. One name. Over and over again.

I wasn’t trying to snoop, but when someone’s phone is blowing up in their lap, you notice. And the worst part? The name wasn’t hers.

I saw his face go pale. He swallowed hard, flipped the phone over, but it was too late. She had seen it too.

"Who’s Emma?"

Boom. Silence.

My coworker paused mid-line. I stopped my machine. The whole shop went still.

He stammered, scrambling for an answer. She wasn’t buying it. She turned to my coworker. "What does it say?"

Now, we don’t get involved in relationship drama. But this? This was happening in our shop. Right in front of us. And my coworker? She glanced at the screen, hesitated, and then—

"It says: 'I miss you. I can’t wait to see you tonight.'"

I swear to God, the entire shop gasped.

The woman shot up, her half-finished tattoo forgotten. Her face twisted from confusion to anger to devastation all in the span of three seconds. "Are you serious right now?!"

The dude went full panic mode. "Babe, it’s not what you think!"

"Oh, really? Because it looks like you were planning a little after-hours activity with Emma while getting a tattoo about forever with me!"

She ripped off her stencil and stormed toward the door. But before leaving, she turned on her heel and grabbed his freshly inked arm.

"Enjoy explaining THIS to Emma," she spat, before slamming the door so hard the walls shook.

He sat there, stunned, staring at his half-finished tattoo like it had betrayed him. And me? I just turned off my machine and said, "So… you still want me to finish this?"

Spoiler: He didn’t.
