The Inked Archives: Tony's Tattoo Truths & Tales

I’ve had plenty of clients come in wanting names tattooed—lovers, kids, even pets. But this guy? He walked in, sat down, and asked for a name he had never heard before.
He handed me a slip of paper with the name ‘Eleanor Vance’ written on it. “I need this exact name, same spelling, no changes.”
I looked at him, expecting an explanation. None came.
“Who is she?” I asked.
He shrugged. “No clue. Just a name I need on my skin.”
I hesitated. “So… you don’t know her?”
He shook his head. “Never met her. Never will.”

That uneasy feeling crept up my spine, but I kept my mouth shut and did the tattoo. He sat still the whole time, staring at the wall like he was somewhere else. When I finished, he examined the fresh ink in the mirror, nodded once, and handed me the cash. No tip, no small talk.
Just as he reached the door, I couldn’t help myself. “Why her?”
He paused, then turned back. His face was unreadable. “Because she’ll find me now.”
And with that, he walked out. I still don’t know who Eleanor Vance is. And I don’t think I want to.
