Mabee Inked Archive: Tony’s Tattoo Truths & Tales

Breakup tattoos are nothing new. I’ve covered up dozens of names, initials, anniversary dates—you name it. But this one? This one had style.
She walked into the shop with a confidence I rarely see in people fresh off a breakup. No puffy eyes, no shaky hands—just pure, focused determination. She tossed her jacket over the chair and rolled up her sleeve, revealing the name ‘Brandon’ in bold, black script.
“I need this covered. But I don’t want just any cover-up. I want to ruin his life.”
That got my attention. “Alright,” I said, leaning in. “What are we working with?”
She pulled out her phone, scrolling to a photo. When she turned the screen, I almost laughed.
It was a hyper-realistic black widow spider.
“Brandon hates spiders,” she said, smirking. “Like, full-on arachnophobic. He gets freaked out if he even sees a picture of one.”
Now, I’m not saying I encourage revenge tattoos, but this was brilliant. Instead of just covering up his name, she was turning it into something that would haunt him for years.
We got to work. I made sure that spider had every tiny detail—the delicate legs curling over the old lettering, the sinister hourglass shape centered right over the ‘o’ in ‘Brandon.’

By the time we were done, it looked alive.
She checked it in the mirror and grinned. “Perfect.”
She paid, left a generous tip, and walked out with her head held high. And me?
I was left wondering how long it would take for Brandon to find out.
