Wondering how you can enhance your tattoo experience at Mabee Ink? We've got you covered with some tips from industry professionals!
In the following paragraphs, we’ll discuss what you should and shouldn't do before, during, and after your tattoo session. Let’s dive in!
Walking into a tattoo shop can be intimidating for some, but the process is generally straightforward. You come in with an idea, consult with an artist, get your tattoo, pay, and leave. However, there are important etiquette practices that every client should know. This guide will prepare you for the best tattoo experience at Mabee Ink.
TIP #1: Know What You Want
When you come for your appointment or as a walk-in, have at least a rough idea of your desired design. Reference images are always appreciated and encouraged! Feel free to present your inspiration references to your artist, who can perfect them into a final design for you.
TIP #2: Keep It Fresh
Remember, you’ll be in close quarters with your artist for an extended period. Arrive showered, and if possible, shave the area where your tattoo will be placed. Your artist will appreciate it!
TIP #3: Dress the Part
Wear clothes that allow easy access to the tattoo area. Black or dark clothing is best to avoid ink stains. Think loose, comfortable garments you won't mind wearing for a while.
TIP #4: Prepare Your Body
Getting tattooed can be taxing on the body. Stay hydrated (bring a water bottle!) and ensure you're well-rested and have eaten some high-energy food. Avoid alcohol before your appointment; any visible inebriation will result in your artist refusing to work on you.
TIP #5: Consider Rolling Solo (or with a +1)
It's best to show up alone or with a maximum of one companion. Space can be limited, and your moral support may need to wait in the designated area. If you plan to come with a group, give us a heads up so we can accommodate everyone. If the waiting area is crowded, leave your number at the front desk and return when it's your turn.
TIP #6: No Time Constraints
The duration of a tattoo session can vary. If you have a tight schedule, it’s best to reschedule. Tattoos are permanent, and rushing the process is never ideal. Allow your artist the time needed to create the best possible piece.
TIP #7: Leave the Kids at Home
Tattoo shops are not suitable for children. There are bio-hazardous materials, explicit content, and adult-oriented discussions. Most shops, including ours, do not allow children on the tattoo floor. For everyone's comfort and safety, arrange childcare for your tattoo day.
TIP #8: Hold Still
Movement can result in uneven lines. Practice staying still, and take deep breaths to manage pain. If you need to move or change positions, give your artist a heads up.
TIP #9: Tipping Shows Appreciation
Tipping is customary and appreciated. If you're unsure how much to tip, ask the front desk for guidance on standard gratuity.
TIP #10: Follow Aftercare Instructions
After your tattoo session, your artist will provide aftercare instructions. These steps are crucial for the healing process. If no advice is given, you can find our aftercare guide here.
