Mentorship

My apprenticeship is a structured, two-year dive into everything you need for a lifetime career—technical craft, financial skills, and studio admin. Think actual curriculum, actual homework, and actual progress, not standard industry vague promises.

The best part? No floor mopping, no running my errands, no answering phones, and zero frat-style hazing. I’m here to mentor a future professional, Your "sacrifices" will be long hours drawing, studying tattoo history, and mastering craft accountability.

Hello There 👋 This is Tattoo Tony,

Unlike most places—where you pay with time, clean toilets for two years, and hope you learn something—my program is fully transparent on timeline, skills, and costs. It is a paid program (lump-sum or monthly/weekly installment options available). If you're just looking for a cool, casual gig, this isn't it. But if you’re looking to build a serious, fulfilling career, you’re in the right place.

Quick heads-up: the figures listed in the schedule are lump-sum rates; if you prefer payments, it breaks down to $420/month or $100/week over two years.

To give a clear roadmap of what to expect over the next 22 months, here is a breakdown of the course curriculum—semester by semester. (Note: I operate as a solo artist, supported strictly by one Executive Assistant who will periodically reach out regarding administrative updates, scheduling, and news.)

Semester 1:

Remote Artwork Portfolio Building (5.5 Months) This is the official initiation from civilian to artist. Before stepping behind the chair, proof is needed that the drive and raw talent are there. Building a portfolio at home on personal time proves passion, discipline, and commitment. Rule number one of the tattoo industry: never walk into a shop asking for a job empty-handed. (Every artist NEEDS an art portfolio BEFORE entering into a studio as an artist.)

Semester 2:

Hands-On Studio Orientation (5.5 Months) Time to step across the threshold and see how a professional machine actually runs. This semester takes a look behind the scenes, covering everything from hospital-grade shop sanitation to high-level customer service. Students learn standard operating procedures, client relations, and the daily discipline required to keep a studio running seamlessly.

Semester 3:

Hands-On Tattoo Portfolio Building (5.5 Months) Now for the fun part: picking up a machine. Work starts on synthetic skin to dial in voltage and hand speed before graduating to brave friends and family. This phase is where art history, tattoo lineage, and modern technique intersect. No student is the first person to pick up a tattoo machine, nor the last—respecting the craft that came before is what sets true professionals apart from scratchers.

Semester 4: Guided Business, Marketing & Financial Management (5 Months) Divided into two targeted modules, this semester bridges the gap between being a good tattooer and becoming an amazing artist owning a profitable career.

Part 1 (Advertising & Marketing): Master modern branding, digital presence, and audience retention so the chair stays full regardless of industry shifts. Part 2 (Client & Financial Management): What gets measured gets managed. Learn income tracking, budgeting for economic cycles, and building a sustainable business model for long-term independence.

The Final Stretch: 14-Day Testing Intensive & Graduation The two-year journey wraps up with an intensive two-week evaluation covering every protocol, technical skill, and practical scenario learned. Passing the test earns a formal certificate of completion, a complete top-tier professional setup, and a graduation ceremony to celebrate the transition into a licensed professional.

Earning Potential & The End Game Throughout hands-on training, students earn income on commercial tattoos, governed by a sliding percentage split. As technical skill and independence increase, the studio's cut decreases—shifting focus entirely toward building a personal enterprise.

Unlike conventional shops that attempt to lock artists into lifelong, restrictive unwritten contracts, this program is strictly limited to two years and is formalized through a written contract. Once complete, graduates are kicked out past the city gates into the wild—fully equipped to run their own books, handle economic downturns, and build a lasting career on their own terms.

However, "getting kicked out" doesn't mean the door is locked forever. Artists who successfully graduate and earn their certificate of completion will have the exclusive option and opportunity to continue working alongside mentor Tony Mabee, as well as being considered as a booth-mate for conventions when Mabee Ink hits the road.
